24 Hours of MOAB
Start of Race
Tom swept up in the pandemonium
Our Tent!
Tent City-it was like a gear junky Woodstock!

Funny! It ended up being about 8 hours of Moab due to the harsh weather we got ONLY during the 24 hours of the race. I swear, we had epic weather until the race started at noon on Saturday and when the race was supposed to end at noon on Sunday it got beautiful again! So the 24 hour race is in its 12th year I think and it has become a famous race for amateurs and pros. There are a bunch of different categories to enter: teams of 4 or 5 same sex, teams of 4 or 5 coed, teams of 3 (I think) and solo racers. It is a relay race that continues for 24 hours. Everyone has shifts and everyone hopes that they don't have too many night rides! The weather for this race was unusual and when it started getting dark and the rain wasn't stopping, the temp dropped considerably; so the EMT's on call for the race asked that the race be stopped and they can pick up when the sun comes up. Of course, they don't stop the race and continue it on through the day to make 24 hours, they still stop at noon the next day. So everyone was kinda bummed that it didn't go on to make it official, but the weather was extreme for the riders and a lot of people got hurt. Stasia was one of the volunteers that has to keep all the team members fed and wake them up when it is their turn to ride! So she was relieved that she could sleep that night. Sky made a fire and the rain started to dissipate, so we all started drinking and kind of celebrating-meaning it was sort of a semi-sweet victory-we didn't know if we were happy that we didn't have to stay up all night or well you know-the air was confusing!!!
